The Protocol Agreement
GP Trainers ...
-
are responsible for the training of individual doctors as general practitioners
in the general practice setting. In particular, GP Trainers must be aware of
the requirements of SA and of the level of work required. It is crucial that GP
Trainers are able to provide reliable and effective information, advice,
support and encouragement.
-
are expected to organise feedback on a GP Registrar’s consultations and advise
when they feel the GP Registrar is ready to submit a video, or attend a
simulated patient surgery for SA purposes.
-
should be fully equipped with the necessary skills to put videotapes together
so as to ensure reasonable technical quality in videos made by their GP
registrars.
-
are expected to advise GP Registrars on the written submission of practical
work and allow protected time to complete this. All training practices must
have in place an active programme of audit which demonstrates the full audit
cycle and the application of both standards and criteria.
-
are expected to highlight any concerns as early as possible in the GP Registrar
year so that action can be taken, and enlist the support of others if a GP
Registrar is not likely to pass all components. GP Registrars will then have
the support of their GP Trainer, Course Organiser, Co-ordinator, Director or
Associate Director in attempting to reach the required standard. This may
include an extended period of training as a GP Registrar.
