The Protocol Agreement

Requirements of GP Registrars...

  1. Read carefully the sections on the

    All components must be passed in order to complete summative assessment

  2. Inform their Deanery of their chosen component methods to complete SA especially if they wish to attempt methods not currently offered by their own Deanery. This is best achieved by completing the SA application form and returning this to their Deanery.

  3. Ensure their GPR SA number appears on all their submitted components/correspondence

  4. Discuss the component methods with their GP trainer at the beginning of their general practice based training year and if there are any further questions, which the GP Trainer is unable to answer, they should approach their Course Organisers, Co-ordinator, Associate Director or Director.

  5. Inform their Deanery if they move training practice, move to another Deanery or take time out of GP training (i.e. maternity leave and periods of sick leave beyond 2 weeks in any one calendar year).

  6. Be aware that they
  • may undertake the full COGPED SA components and alternative methods free of charge, with the exception of the MRCGP video and MRCGP MCQ. However in some instances, they will require the permission of their Director to undertake non-COGPED methods of SA. Until such permission is granted, funding cannot be guaranteed.

  • are not allowed to change to a different method once they have chosen and submitted a particular component method unless there are exceptional circumstances and they have the permission of their Director, after consultation with the Chair of the NSAB.

  • Under no circumstances can components be returned to the GP Registrar once they have entered the SA process.
