The MRCGP MCQ - introduction
The MRCGP Multiple Choice paper is available twice each year. It is
timetabled on the same day as the MRCGP Written Paper for the convenience of
those who wish to take both papers at the same session but can be taken (or
retaken) singly.
MRCGP MCQ Dates
The final MRCGP Multiple Choice Paper was held on 2 May 2007. It is now replaced by a component
of the nMRCGP, the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT). The first AKT will be held on 31 October 2007,
with subsequent sittings in February 2008, May 2008 and October 2008.
Full details of how to apply will be published on the RCGP’s website in due course (http://www.rcgp.org.uk/the_gp_journey/nmrcgp/akt.aspx).
The Multiple Choice Paper will be held in the afternoon (usually
1.30pm to 4.30pm) on each of the dates given above.
Candidates may sit the MRCGP MCQ paper as many times as the MRCGP Examination
Regulations currently in force permit.
Candidates for the MRCGP examination irrespective of whether they pass or fail
the examination overall, but who satisfy the examiners that their performance
in the MRCGP MCQ is adequate (Pass or Pass with Merit), will be issued with a
letter from the College to this effect. A Pass or Pass with Merit will be
accepted as evidence of competence in the summative assessment MCQ. They should
send this letter to their Deanery Office at the same time as their final VTR1.
The Deanery Office will return the letter from the College to the GP registrar
together with the signed VTR1.
