The COGPED MCQ - introduction
The COGPED MCQ paper is of 3 hours' duration, testing knowledge and problem-solving skills, and will be held on four separate occasions each year. The Deanery Offices will publish the local venues.
The National Summative Assessment Board (NSAB) recommends that GP registrars consider very carefully whether they should undertake the COGPED MCQ before completing 3 months of their general practice based training. The COGPED MCQ contains specific general practice elements, ie administration, and there is a risk of failure if sufficient general practice based training has not been undertaken.
COGPED MCQ Dates
The final Summative Assessment MCQ was held on 2 May 2007. It is now replaced by a component
of the nMRCGP, the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT). The first AKT will be held on 31 October 2007, with
subsequent sittings in February 2008, May 2008 and October 2008.
Full details of how to apply will be published on the RCGP’s website in due course (http://www.rcgp.org.uk/nmrcgp_/nmrcgp.aspx).
