The Informal Route
Those who experience difficulty during their GP Registrar year may, in
consultation with their Director, be offered an extension to their training.
The RCGP's Certification Unit advises GP Directors to approach it for informal
advice where there is any doubt as to the completeness of a trainee’s overall
experience or their readiness and/or suitability for additional funded training.
Failing Summative Assessment and extending training
Doctors who fail one or more components of Summative Assessment may, in
consultation with their GP director, be offered an extension to their
training.
