Introduction

NB. The final deadline for submitting a COGPED Audit or a project under the NPMS is 31 July 2008.

The written submission of practical work can be undertaken...

The written submission can be completed at any time during the 3 years of vocational training but submitted no later than 3 months before the end of the general practice based training year. However, the work must be relevant to general practice. It is to the GP Registrar's advantage to submit the work as early as possible in case resubmission becomes necessary. Should the written submission be submitted later than 3 months prior to the end of their general practice based training year this may result in a significant delay in certification.

GP Trainers or Course Organisers will give advice on the type of written submission and the scope of work that is appropriate. GP Registrars should discuss with their GP Trainer the resources they will require to carry out the written submission. The timely submission of a good written submission can be facilitated by the provision of adequate time, resources and support, which Deaneries expect to be provided by the GP training practice.

It is essential that GP Registrars read all the preparatory information. They should pay particular attention to the instructions regarding the format of the written submission, criteria, number of words, spacing, anonymity etc as well as reviewing the marking schedule very carefully.

If GP Registrars do not adhere to the criteria, the written submission will be returned and may result in a significant delay in certification.

GP Registrars should bear in mind the importance of presenting original data honestly acquired. Fabricated data will result in local proceedings within the Deanery and could lead to disciplinary procedures via the GMC. Extracts from papers etc should have an acknowledgement of source. Material that is used in submissions and obtained from the World Wide Web without acknowledging the origin of the material and using it for academic purposes amounts to academic fraud. This will also result in local proceedings within the Deanery and could lead to disciplinary procedures via the GMC.

GP Registrars are requested to complete the Summative Assessment Application Form  and return this to the Deanery Office.
