FAQs - Transition to nMRCGP

From August 2007 that there will be a single new assessment process for doctors wishing to obtain a CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in general practice. This new assessment will also be an essential requirement for entry to the GMC Generalist Register and Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP).

General Questions

• When and how are the 2 assessments becoming one?
• When will trainers/trainees receive information on the final format of the new exam?
• If any component of assessment is completed after 1 August 2008, will this result in the nMRCGP award, rather than the MRCGP?
• I am due to start my GPR year in February 2007; I will have completed 2 years in hospital posts by that time. Can I do the nMRCGP?
• I am starting GP ST1 in August 2007 - what assessment will I be expected to complete?

Applied Knowledge Test (AKT)

• Will the current MCP part of the MRCGP count for the equivalent part of nMRCGP?
• How long is the AKT and CSA valid for and how long would I have to complete the whole of nMRCGP?
• Is the MCQ mentioned in the Information Sheet 3 tables, the summative assessment MCQ?
• If I pass the MRCGP MCP before 1 August 2007, will this exempt me from doing the AKT?
• Where and when will the AKT be held?

• What type and format of training evidence should our new VTS starters be compiling for WPBA?

Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA)

• Where will the CSA be held?
