What are the possible outcomes?

COGPED Methods

  1. Pass in the Audit, Video and Structured Trainer’s Report

  2. Referral of the Audit
    1. Resulting in either a pass or return of the work to the GP Registrar suggesting resubmission and/or a new submission (following mentorship by the GP Trainer and/or Course Organiser)

  3. Failure of the Audit
    1. Should the audit submission fail to pass the summative assessment process, the GP registrar will be permitted to submit a further audit submission following a period of retraining on audit methods. The duration and nature of this specific retraining should be agreed following careful discussion between the Director, Course Organiser, GP Trainer and GP Registrar.

    2. GP Registrars should note that Deaneries will only accept new audits, although revision of minor errors in the original submission may be allowed. Advice will be given by the Coordinator or the Deanery Office.

    3. In the event that this specific period of training cannot be completed within the normal duration of vocational training, then the GP Registrar will need to seek an extension of their training.

    4. In the event of failure of the second audit submission at national level, the Director will discuss the matter and how to proceed with the GP Registrar and others involved in their training
  4. Failure of the Video
    1. Should the video component fail to pass the summative assessment process, then the GP registrar will normally be permitted to submit a further video submission following a period of specific education.

    2. The duration and nature of this specific education should be agreed following careful discussion between the Director, Course Organiser, GP Trainer and GP Registrar.

    3. It is recommended that there should be some 3 months between the candidate failing the 1st video tape and submitting a 2nd video tape. This should ensure that the process is ‘summative’ rather than ‘formative’

    4. In the event that this specific period of training cannot be completed within the planned GP training period, then the GP registrar will need to seek an extension of their training to meet their specific educational needs.

    5. In the event of failure of the 2nd video then the Director will discuss the matter and how to proceed with the GP registrar and others involved in their training

  5. Failure of Structured Trainer’s Report
    1. In the event that a GP Registrar fails the structured trainer’s report, they should consult their Course Organiser, Summative Assessment Co-ordinator, Director or Associate Director, who will recommend what action needs to be taken.

    1. Resulting in either a pass or return of the work to the GP Registrar suggesting resubmission and/or a new submission (following mentorship by the GP Trainer and/or Course Organiser)

    1. If the (National Assessors believe that the) GP Registrar should fail the project, then the GP Registrar will be permitted to submit a further project following a period of specific education.

    2. The duration and nature of this specific retraining should be agreed following careful discussion between the Coordinator responsible for the written submission, GP Trainer and GP Registrar.

    3. In the event that this specific period of retraining cannot be completed within the normal duration of the planned GP training period, then the GP Registrar will need to seek an extension of their training from the Director.

    4. In the event of failure of the 2nd project submission at national level, the Director will discuss the matter and how to proceed with the GP Registrar and others involved in their training
